The next stop was Drakes Bay. Situated in The Osa penninsular, this is the most remote of Costa Rica's many wildlife areas, with opportunities to do tours with limited numbers allowed, and we hope without the slightly theme park feel we read about elsewhere. An easy 3 hour good road from Jaco to Sierpe. Stopped at Dominical on route for rice beans salad and chicken, which is pretty much available everywhere and really tasty.
Only @fredwattsart can really get away with this look!
Arrival at Drakes Bay is via a ferry taxi ride from Sierpe, the car parking situation felt a little chaotic at Sierpe (where you leave your vehicle ) but despite my natural difficulty believing that everyone is not working an angle, we managed to find a space and hoped for the best! The ferry-taxi ride through spectacular mangrove lined waterways was a real treat
We had booked Drakes Bay Greenleaf some while in advance because it looked like a spectacular location. The owners Steven and Helen were so helpful. Only four villas with spectacular windows overlooking jungle and bay. Steven was waiting for us on the beach when we arrived..... perfection
The menu is decided for you based upon your preferences, with every effort made to understand likes and dislikes. The food there is inclusive, home cooked, never the same twice, superb portions, local top quality ingredients, we really couldn't fault it. Freshed tuna, ceviche, steaks etc... served with international twist on local Costa Rican recipes! We were very very happy!
Fresh yellow fin, with fruit sauce, slaw and curried potatoes
Prawns,tomatoes and beetroot purée
Rooms were so spacious with massive shower, balcony, panoramic windows and jungle background noise!
We did trips everyday and returned sweaty, exhilarated and tired everyday for incredible siesta, early evening drinks, sunsets and early nights. Peaceful and perfect
The Tucan couple in their fruit trees were so vibrantly coloured. Wish I could relay the jungle noise, but recommend you do check it out yourself !
